The second annual Strada Corsa Tour is underway! We met last night at the school to do some preliminary packing of the food and group gear.  Lots of details were accomplished including photocopying, highlighting maps, sorting food, and double-checking all the equipment.

We met it 7 AM, finished packing last-minute items and some personal gear, took some group photos, then hit the road. The weather forecast showed a very large cold front coming through; we were expecting rain although we were praying we could stay ahead of it. We head out of Yucaipa, through Calimesa, and over to Cherry Valley. The excitement started pretty quick: as we were heading up Cherry Valley Hill, a woman in a black pickup truck pulled up behind us and started tailing us like a SAG vehicle. Mr. Cochran was the tail and...

Day One - March 14, 2010
We assembled at 7am at the school to pack up the food and gear. Logistics! Theres a lot going on with packing, pictures, and families saying goodbye. We leave about 8:45am, 45 minutes behind. The group spreads out according to speed, with adult riders shadowing the students. As we leave Yucaipa and turn the corner toward Cherry Valley, a portent of the day ahead comes- wind. Rachel Lorson has a slow-leak flat and her dad, driving sag (support and gear) quickly stops and pumps her tire up to keep her on pace to reach our first rest stop. Everyone is fresh and keep a steady pace into Beaumont, where we stop for snacks at Dance Spectrum, and stop by Anytime Fitness to say thank you. Rachel has her tire get eaten by a groove in the pavement and she takes a spill. Her...

March 2010: Comments from the Riders

Rachel
"When I was starting to ride on day six we turned a couple times then I saw a huge hill right in front of me. I thought it would be way harder than the hills we did on the way to Cherry Valley. About four minutes later I was at the top. I was in my hardest gear the whole time which is gear 21 (3-7). The rest of the ride was also really easy, now I know it was because we train in Yucaipa."

Butch & Donna Lorson
"We both are so proud of all the riders and all they accomplished. Thank you for letting us be a part of it. We are so happy that the children of YCS have a place to learn to put Jesus first in their lives."

Katie
"On Thursday Brian, Bryce, Cameron, Karissa, and I started a 64 mile...

Right now I am doing work. I have had an excellent time, and it has been really fun. Mr. Cochran has told us some fun stories while were riding and he has made the ride worthwhile. On Sunday we rode 54 miles; Monday was about 40; Tuesday was about 43; and now comes today. We are planning on riding around just 18 miles today. I have been able to finish the past 3 days and am planning on at least TRYING to finish today. Plz pray for me!

Katie and I are doing work right now. This ride is a lot better than I thought it would be. We have been riding for at least four days. We have been riding almost 40 to 50 miles each day, but today we are ONLY riding 18 miles. So thats a relief. Ive been having a lot of...

I arrived at my parent's house in Placerville, CA, last night and spent this morning getting my technology together so that (hopefully) I can communicate during the tour. The rest of today will be spent visiting with family. Tomorrow, my youngest brother David gets married. The whole family will be here and it should be a great time of celebration. Monday I will pack and prepare all my gear for the 562 mile trip home. I'll start out on Tuesday.

July 29
I got up at 6am this morning and did last minute packing. My wife, my dad, and my brother drove me to Jenkinson Lake, my starting point. After a prayer and goodbyes, it was time to start my journey. The lake was still and I was surrounded by forest. The day's theme quickly unfolded- UP,UP,...

CFCS Edition IV is finally here!! This ride is a fundraiser for Yucaipa Christian School, and this year for the first time, students from the school are participating on the tour itself.

We had a great send off from the student body of Yucaipa Christian School today. We met at 1:30pm to do last minute packing, and were on the road by 2:30pm. Everyone is really excited and has trained hard over the past few months for this event. There are ten cyclists and another ten in the support team.

The ride from Yucaipa to Nacimiento Lake was long and we got into camp at about 9:30pm. After some searching, we found some sites and got to bed just before midnight.

Rise and shine was at 7am this morning. It was chilly during the night,...

Monterey Ca to Yucaipa, CA

May 19
Send off. We had a great day at school with our annual walkathon. The weather was warm, and lots of water was being shared (water fights!) and consumed. Over 6000 laps were completed by the students! At the end of the school day, we had an assembly on the field to send off Chad Wardlow and I on the Coast For Christian Schools bike tour fundraiser. I received an ice bath as I was completing my comments. We hopped on our bikes and rode to my house, where we loaded up and headed out to Central California. My wife, Stephanie, and my son, Kurtis, were driving us up to our starting point. We stopped for dinner at an IHOP, and I left my phone at the...

This is my first chance to journal, and a lot has already happened. We left Yucaipa on Wednesday, drove to Laughlin, and spent the night. That’s as far as we got because of having to turn around because of the fires in Morongo Valley. Thursday, we drove through Flagstaff, then north through monument valley, which was very impressive with many buttes and sandstone stacks. We spent Thursday night in Blanding, Utah, founded in 1905 as Mormon settlement.

As soon as we pulled into the motel, a dad and his twin sons rode up on touring bikes. They were coming from the direction we were headed, so we talked quite a bit about the route. They said it was very rugged. They had started in San Francisco about 24 days ago and were on their way to North...

We’re off on the big adventure! After three days of driving, we arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia, at about 12:30pm. Thanks to mom and dad; Michelle, Lonnie, and Maureen; grandma and Aunt Donna for putting us up overnight on the way up here. We drove the peninsula in Vancouver and found a park to spread out all our stuff and do a final pack. We left Maple Grove Park at about 3:15pm and headed south over the Arthur Lang Bridge, past the Vancouver International Airport and to the George Massey Tunnel. There is a free taxi service for bicycles through the tunnel, as there are no sidewalks for any pedestrian or cycling traffic. We had to wait there for an hour, ride another 9 miles to the ferry terminal, then wait another hour to catch the ferry over...
